Polarium Announces Acquisition of Stella Futura, Strengthening Leadership in Nordic Energy Storage Market

4th June, 2025

Polarium, a leader in energy storage solutions, today announced the acquisition of Stella Futura, a prominent player in the Nordic Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market. This is a natural progression from the strategic partnership previously established between the two companies and marks a significant step forward in accelerating the deployment of BESS across Northern and Central Europe.

The acquisition combines Polarium’s cutting-edge modular energy storage technology and cloud-based Virtual Power Plant (VPP) solutions with Stella Futura’s deep expertise in system design, project development, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services. The result is a fully integrated platform capable of delivering scalable, safe, cost-effective and efficient energy storage systems tailored for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sectors.

“Bringing Stella Futura into the Polarium family strengthens our commitment to delivering smart, sustainable energy solutions across Northern and Central Europe to start,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO of Polarium. “Our partnership demonstrated clear synergies and market traction. By fully integrating Stella Futura’s capabilities, and market expertise, we can move faster and go further in enabling the renewable energy transition – especially as we estimate the European C&I market will reach 37 GWh by 2030.”

The energy landscape is rapidly evolving, driven by growing renewable integration, increased demand for grid support services and energy supply flexibility, and a favorable regulatory environment. This acquisition positions Polarium to capture growing opportunities in this space by offering an end-to-end solution — from technology and design to deployment and life-time service.

Stella Futura, founded on the principle of engineering excellence, has built a strong reputation as a trusted provider of behind-the-meter BESS solutions. Its experience in the Nordic market, system design and local project execution make it an ideal complement to Polarium’s offering.

Stella Futura will continue to operate in a technology-agnostic manner in order to offer the best possible solutions to industrial and commercial customers. Within the Polarium group, this creates a strong platform for growth in the C&I segment, with the flexibility to tailor system design and technology choices to each individual project.

“We’re excited to take this next step together with Polarium,” said Ulrika Tornerefelt, CEO of Stella Futura. “The partnership has already proven our alignment in values, goals, and technical excellence. As one company, we can offer even greater value to our customers and play a leading role in delivering reliable, clean energy solutions to the region.”

With this acquisition, Polarium and Stella Futura reaffirm their goal of installing 100 MW capacity in Northern and Central Europe within the next 18 months. The combined entity will continue to focus on commercial and industrial clients, offering flexible solutions such as leasing and battery-as-a-service® models to support a broad range of energy storage needs.

This acquisition not only accelerates Polarium’s growth in a strategically important region but also reflects its broader vision to unlock endless energy — empowering communities, businesses, and the grid with safe, smart, and sustainable energy storage systems.
