Polarium and Pixii establish strategic alliance to develop wide range of solutions for global energy storage market
6th May, 2021Polarium and Pixii have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and market energy storage solutions including Polarium lithium batteries and Pixii inverters and related equipment. The two companies’ first joint project is for the Scandinavian market and includes a multi-megawatt system, enabling peak-shaving and battery backup.
Energy storage is a key enabler of the transition to a renewable energy system. Being the link between renewable energy and constant reliability, it will play a large role in the transition to a decarbonized energy system, as the two main sources of renewable energy, wind and solar, are intermittent. To meet the increasing demand of sustainable energy storage solutions, Polarium, specialized in lithium-ion energy storage technology, and Pixii, experts in modular power conversion solutions, are to establish a strategic alliance.
“Batteries are key components of energy storage systems and close co-operation with battery manufacturers is key to ensure the optimal performance of our systems. With Polarium, we have found the ideal partner, with co-operation on technology, solutions, and market development,” says Morten Schøyen, CMO of Pixii.
The two companies will jointly develop and market energy storage solutions, including Polarium lithium-ion batteries and Pixii bi-directional inverters and related equipment. As a first collaborative project, the companies are set to deliver a multi-megawatt energy storage solution for the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment, enabling battery backup and peak-shaving applications for a Scandinavian client. The first order is for a total capacity of 3MW with a total project potential of 40MW.
“This is a milestone for Polarium. Not only is it our first C&I order since the launch of our new business area in late 2020, it is also the start of an exciting collaboration with our friends at Pixii. Together, we form a strong team, combining their excellent power conversion capabilities with our lithium-ion energy storage technology to address the growing demands for sustainable energy storage solutions in the C&I segment,” says Stefan Jansson CEO of Polarium.
