Polarium and CTEK in Partnership to Develop Energy Storage with Electric Vehicle Charging

8th February, 2022

Polarium and CTEK launch a partnership to develop Energy Storage for EV Charging (ESEV). By combining energy storage solutions from Polarium and charging technology from CTEK the two companies aim to enable EV charging in more locations and for more individuals previously limited by grid capacity, space or cost.

“This is an extremely promising project, and CTEK is the perfect partner for us to explore Polarium’s capabilities in the EV-charging sphere. By pairing CTEK’s experience in charging technology with our smart energy storage solutions, we will bring the world closer to seamless and universal fast-charging capabilities”says Maha Bouzeid, Business Development Director at Polarium.

As demand for electric vehicles is growing rapidly, several challenges must be solved to meet the requirements of broader electrification of the global car fleet. Until energy grids can be upgraded on a large scale across countries and urban areas, smart and compact energy storage solutions will be vital to match electricity demand with supply.

In their collaboration CTEK and Polarium aim to eliminate the need for strengthened grid connections for charging, and instead enable direct-current (DC) charging in locations previously unsuitable for standard DC charging stations as well as vehicle to grid (V2G) solutions. Enabling energy to be pushed back to the power grid from EV batteries. So that they can be charged and discharged based on grid stability and energy supply.

The fast-charging solution will be separated into two separate modules to allow more flexible installations in tight spaces.

“We are incredibly pleased to be partnering with Polarium to develop the smart fast-charging of the future. Energy storage solutions are crucial for the global electrification effort, and we are therefore seeing an increased deployment of storage alongside EV charging station in many markets. Together we hope to show the way forward for EV charging, proving that it is possible to install charging stations globally” says Cecilia Routledge, Global Director for Energy & Facilities at CTEK.

Polarium and CTEK have agreed several engagements where this charging prototype will be tested in the field, in Sweden as well as internationally.
