Näst Energy Lab launches one of Europe’s largest vehicle-to-grid installations

Polarium is part of the initiative, contributing Polarium BESS — a large-scale battery energy storage system designed to enable and optimize energy use. The solution supports smart charging and vehicle-to-grid functionality, enabling local energy storage, flexibility and real-time optimization within the integrated system.

Näst Energy Lab is the result of partnerships formed within Näst Innovation Destination Torslanda, an open and neutral arena designed to accelerate innovation through collaboration across industries. The first project delivered within the platform, From Parking to Power, is now in full operation.

From Parking to Power — a local power system in operation

From Parking to Power demonstrates how parking infrastructure can be converted into an active part of the local energy system. The project integrates real estate and buildings, stationary battery storage, charging infrastructure, and up to 160 connected electric vehicles into a coordinated local power system operating in real time.

Polarium’s battery system plays a key role in optimizing how energy is produced, stored, and used locally — helping reduce peak demand, lower operating costs, and strengthen energy resilience in the built environment. Combined with smart charging and vehicle-to-grid functionality, the system enables continued electrification without the need for major grid reinforcements.

Phase one infrastructure is designed with future phases set to expand capacity further — establishing a new benchmark for large-scale V2G integration within a single, integrated system.
